Welcome!

This is the homepage for the Manx Computational Linguistics Olympiad. The next International Linguistics Olympiad will be held in Beijing, China, in July 2014. We want to send a team to represent the Isle of Man again. To this end, a Manx National Olympiad will be held in the Spring of 2014. The competition is open to any Manx student under 18 who has an an interest in languages (natural or artificial) and the way they work. Gold, silver and bronze certificates will be awarded, and a certificate of participation will be given to every participant. The four students achieving the highest marks in this competition will be invited to go to Beijing. Although we cannot say how much this will cost yet, we are hoping to find some sponsorship.

You qualify to take part if you will be under 18 on the 1st of September 2014, and if you sat your IGCSE/GCSE/TCG exams at a secondary school in the Isle of Man. Home schooled pupils are eligible, as long as they can prove that they have been residing in the Isle of Man for the previous five years. Pupils who have left the Isle of Man to attend Sixth Form may also take part, but the deadline for such candidates to apply will be December 25th 2013.

There will be links to lessons appearing on this page: Lessons. For more information about the questions, please look at the homepage of the United Kingdom Olympiad:  http://www.uklo.org/.

If you would like to take part in the competition please send a message to gef2014@yahoo.co.uk before the 18th of January 2014.
